DSL with Static IP
Approval for $99/month and installation costs of $280 for a router and $75 installation costs for up to 6 Static IP's was
approved at the last meeting. The Customer Service department of Century Tel was apparently unfamiliar with what was
required, and after several phone calls to them and abortive starts, we finally got put in contact with a technical guy who
could make it happen. What emerged during the several phone calls was:
- each static IP requires an additional $20/month, for the three servers a total of $60/month additional
- the $280 router mailed to us was actually a modem, not required, and the router we would need would be a Cisco
- Cisco 827 for would do, but a Cisco 1720-ADSL would be required for an eventual T-1 line
- Century Tel is a Cisco vendor, quoting Cisco 827 cost of $543 and Cisco 1720-ADSL cost of $1419
- additional 2 hours of installation support at $95/hour would be required
- Cisco 827 could be purchased as is for $465 from other vendors but no servicing or installation support would be
available
- e-mail discussion during this time between Nancy, Brent, Jurian, Kiko, Shirley, Roger, and Ernie concluded Century
Tel with support and ownership of success worth the difference in price of $97.
- the location and data line offered by Nancy would suffice, as expected
Approval for additional costs would be
- $40/month (above $99/month approved) for 2 additional Static IP's = $139/mo
- $263 (above the $280 approved) for Cisco 827 router = $587
- $115 (above the $75 approved) for installation costs = $190
