98-002 Seed TEAM Support
This project supports the Troubled Times Seed TEAM by paying postage on the mailing of seed and puchasing seed. The project has a dedicated contributor in John Kelso, who contributed $800 during 1999. A significant contribution of approximately $3,000 for light duty farm equipment, recieved in early 2000, raises the possibility of engaging the nonprofit in the production of seed in quantity. One of the Seed TEAM hubs, Roger, is the Principal.
98-003 Administration & Operation
Expenses of $1,975 covering years 1997-1999 have been paid. These include costs of incorporation, securing a nonprofit status with the IRS, and the purchase of Quickbooks upgrades. $500 has been set aside for the year 2000, and additional funds were set aside to cover the first review by a CPA. Additional funding requests for B&O insurance and potential salary costs for officers or clerical or other help are outstanding.
99-001 Headquarters
- Cottage
- A cottage at the headquarters site had the potential of being used as a guest cottage as it had a full bathroom and baseboard heating. Originally a chicken coop, the door was narrow and damage from a roof leak existed. $400 was allocated by the Board during 1999 to replace the door and wall damage and for a gas weed whacker to clear weeds around the premises. Unused for a decade, opening the cottage required $940 to upgrade the plumbing and electric, trim trees, and to install a phone. This expense has not yet been authorized for payment, nor has $855 Clipper spent to travel to provide free carpentry services. A professional carpenter, Clipper advised replacing 3 windows to repair flimsy walls, an estimated additional $1,500.
- NT Server
- This project is not a high priority because existing facilities for mailing lists (eGroups), a search engine (FreeFind), NetMeeting servers, and web servers exists. The NT server would provide a dedicated NetMeeting server and online data collection, but would require a $300/month co-locating expense. The server might go online along with streaming video servers, sharing line costs, thus becoming cost effective. Nancy is the Principal and current owners of the NT server hardware and software.
- Streaming Video Linux Servers
- Dual Linux servers are planned to be built in the Silicon Valley area by Principal Ernie, during the year 2000. Jurian will then operate the servers via telnet. Streaming video will be done using a UNIX operating system such as Red Hat, with an Apache web server. Funding requirements are estimated at $4,300 for the two servers, which will act as backup for one another.
